Bioparc Valencia is a long-term project developed by a group of professionals with expertise in diverse fields.
Bioparc Valencia is a project conceived by Rain Forest Design S.L., a Spanish company founded in 1995 which concentrates on the design, development and management of zoological parks of a new generation.
Rain Forest Design S.L. employs professionals of different fields (e.g. architecture, engineering, fine arts, veterinary medicine and biology), who are pioneers in using the most modern techniques to create and manage zoological centers. Bioparc Valencia is recognized by international organizations of great prestige such as the European Association of Zoos and Aquariums (EAZA). pertis3 dFAelds.
The Rain Forest team strives to instill in Bioparc Valencia three fundamental principals that guarantee the wellbeing of the animal within its facilities:
A sustainable design
Architecture and engineering professionals conceptualize the project design, applying science to recreate habitats that ensure the well-being of the animals. Since these animals will be visited by people it is important that the facilities are comfortable for all and that they fulfil the aim for which they have been designed: zoo-immersion.
Two teams of qualified personnel with a high degree of specialization collaborate closely in maintaining the wellbeing of all the species that live in Bioparc Valencia: the team of animal keepers and biologists and the veterinary team. The efforts of these two teams are coordinated through use of work protocols that guarantee natural behaviour and good health of the animals.
The biologists interpret the animals’ behaviour, and together with the animal keeping staff they design and apply programs to enrich the animals’ environment to meet the animals’ behavioural needs. The keepers additionally perform other tasks that are also important, such as daily cleaning of the facilities, preparation of diets and handling of the animals.
The veterinarians follow a series of forty protocols for the animals that have just arrived and for animals which are being sent to other zoological facilities. The veterinarians also carry out exhaustive health programs including examinations, vaccinations, parasite control and other medical care.
Bioparc has personnel specialized in caring for the vegetation and the landscape. The vegetation and landscape are fundamental elements of Bioparc Valencia that allow the animals to totally integrate with their surroundings. The vegetation is carefully selected to include trees, shrubs and other plants found in the original ecosystems that help to ensure that the last detail of savannahs, sandy slopes, plots and rivers are faithfully re-created. This not only guarantees the functionality of the park’s facilities, but also ensures that there is harmony and consistency throughout the park grounds. We can feel the balance that exists between all the elements of fauna, the flora and the geology that give form to the different ecosystems represented in Bioparc Valencia.
