BIOPARC Valencia is a leader in the fight against the climate emergency thanks to the positive impact of its green ecosystem.

The nature conservation park is reinforcing its commitment to sustainability by implementing the latest technology and creating a “digital twin” that translates this “urban climate oasis” into measurable data. With 7 hectares of vegetation and more than 5.200 trees and shrubs, it absorbs over 200 tons of CO₂ annually, equivalent to 1.000 passenger flights between Valencia and Madrid. This initiative against global warming takes on special significance with the celebration of World Day for Reducing CO₂ Emissions, today being Tree Day, and with the start of BIOPARC's 18th anniversary, dedicated to the recovery of the bat, the most Valencian species.

Today marks the Tree Day and last Wednesday the 28th, the World Day for Reducing CO₂ EmissionsThis year, BIOPARC Valencia is focusing on the responsibility to act in the face of the vital challenge of the climate emergency. As a nature park, its scope of action is not only directed towards the protection of endangered animal species, but also towards the preservation of our planet.

The positive contribution as “urban climate oasis” This has already been proven with the impressive reduction of the perceived temperature by up to -11ºC in summer, and now scientific data show the real and measurable capacity in mitigating global warming.

In collaboration with the Institute for Corporate SustainabilityBIOPARC has implemented an analysis system that estimates that more than 200t of CO₂ has been removed from the atmosphere by the 7ha of green ecosystem, which is fundamental in the path towards carbon footprint neutrality.

The methodology combines satellite observation to detect the areas with the greatest dynamism and vegetation density throughout the year, with models that interpret that information From a biological perspective: water consumption, biomass production, and carbon storage. This approach It is integrated into a digital archetype which relates climate and vegetation, providing a complete view of environmental performance and confirming the success as a functional green space infrastructure acting as an urban sink of CO₂ equivalent to more than 1.000 flights per passenger between Valencia and Madrid.

The importance of the green ecosystem

El BIOPARC's cutting-edge zoo immersion concept recreates some of the most beautiful and threatened habitats with a landscape design that includes multi-layered vegetation to generate shade, humidity and more stable microclimates, prolonging the activity of plants and trees and improving their environmental efficiency.

In parallel, BIOPARC has made progress in the responsible management of its botanical heritage by developing detailed maps and comprehensive inventories, including location and condition. Based on this, it has created a digital twin, a key tool for anticipating needs maintenance, resource optimization, and planning actions to guarantee the long-term healthy development of this immense garden. Constant technical management that reinforces the role of BIOPARC as a benchmark in urban sustainability and conservation.

Trees are essential to our livesIn addition to all these advantages, they produce the oxygen we breathe, provide shelter and food for wildlife, and make our public spaces healthier, more beautiful, and more livable. In this sense, they are part of the solution to guaranteeing a better future for the next generations. At BIOPARC, we can enjoy a unique environment, admire the largest collection of acacia trees in Europe, and discover the amazing treasure that the Earth holds.

18th Anniversary of BIOPARC Valencia

From this weekend until March 1st, BIOPARC proposes to celebrate its 18º Anniversary and a double promotion “with a cause” which offers a one-day ticket for €23+€1 (purchase only online and at least the day before the visit) or the B! one-year pass for only €53+€1 (in this case, available both on the website and at the park's ticket office).

Every €1 will be allocated through the BIOPARC Foundation to the preservation of Valencia's most iconic species, the bat. It's worth remembering the very special moment in which this anniversary arrives, with the Opportunity to meet baby rhinos, chimpanzees, or elephants, among many others, and take advantage of the free activities that take place throughout the day.
