Last call for the successful activities on bats organized by the BIOPARC Foundation and Caixa Popular

After selling out all the places for the spring and summer sessions, registration opens today for the 8th and 9th of October for the “Bat night” and “Bat day” respectively, which will mark the end of the season of activities to discover the impressive characteristics of bats. In this way, the BIOPARC Foundation and Caixa Popular have joined forces in the conservation of the closest habitats and of the endangered native wildlife, in this case the most emblematic and almost unknown Valencian species. In addition, the park has incorporated shelter boxes to encourage the “penal rat” to return to its city and will have special informative signage.

Linked to our history and our symbols, Our Community is home to 24 species of bats, 2 of which are in danger of extinction. But paradoxically they are great unknowns and, shrouded in false beliefs and legends, they have been mistreated and denigrated. The reality is that they are amazing, they have authentic “superpowers” ​​and They are great allies not only by helping to maintain ecological balance and promote seed dispersal, but also by controlling pests, as they can eat up to 700 mosquitoes in one night.

With the arrival of autumn some species prepare for hibernation, but before the time change it is an ideal opportunity to observe them in full performance. With this objective Registration opens today for the last “bat nightt” and “Bat day” of the year that will be celebrated on Tuesday 8th and Wednesday 9th October respectively, and which allow us to learn about the biology and habits of bats, their important role in ecosystems and how to contribute to their protection.

Fruit of the collaboration between the BIOPARC Foundation and Caixa Popular, the success among family audiences has been resounding, as all the places in the editions held during the spring and summer have been filled.

This double proposal, designed for ages 8 and up, provides an educational and enjoyable approach to these fascinating animals through interesting talks about their characteristics, which are completed with the long-awaited interactive part.

La “Bat Night” It is an unforgettable experience, with a guided tour at dusk through Cabecera Park to observe bats in their nocturnal habitat. With the help of ultrasound equipment, participants have the opportunity to “listen” to them using the echolocation technique and learn how this ability allows them to fly and hunt insects in the dark.

For its part, in the “Bat day"Shelter boxes are built, which each participant will take home and install to encourage the presence of urban or fissure-dwelling species. These activities include the participation of specialists from the Spanish Association for the Conservation and Study of Bats (SECEMU) and Simbiosi Espai Ambiental.

On the other hand, in its strategy for “the punished rat” return to your city, BIOPARC Valencia has installed shelter boxes in different areas of the route to provide these animals with safe spaces. And it will have special informative signage to promote knowledge of this emblematic species.
